What is this software?

BlackBerry Connect for Treo 680 smartphones lets you access your BlackBerry push email and calendar through the VersaMail® application on your smartphone. Now you can carry a single, great phone with Palm's world-class ease of use and BlackBerry service that keeps you connected.

Do you need this update?

You may already have BlackBerry Connect (BBC) installed on your smartphone. Here's how to tell:

  1. On your smartphone, open VersaMail.
  2. Press Menu . Go to the Accounts menu.
  3. Do you see an item named BBC?
    • Yes: BlackBerry Connect is already installed on your smartphone.
    • No: You'll need to install it separately. See the requirements listed on this page (data plan, provisioning with the carrier, etc.) Download BlackBerry Connect for Treo 680 here.

System Requirements

AT&T requirements

  • BlackBerry data plan is required at an additional cost. See A&T for details.
  • Wireless service coverage area.

BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) requirements

  • BlackBerry Enterprise Server 4 Service Pack 4 or BlackBerry Enterprise Server 4.1 or above
  • User account on your company’s BlackBerry Enterprise Server (contact your IT Administrator)

Computer system

  • Windows 2000 or XP
  • 30MB available hard disk space
  • Outlook 2003 or Lotus Notes 6.5 set as default email on your PC
  • Palm desktop software installed

Smartphone requirements

  • AT&T (previously Cingular) Treo 680 smartphone. Not compatible with other smartphones (such a Treo 700p) or service providers.
  • 4MB of memory space available.

How To Install

  1. Activate a BlackBerry data plan for the device (contact AT&T)
  2. Contact your IT department to create an account on your BlackBerry Enterprise Server
  3. Download and install the BlackBerry Connect software (above). NOTE: You must download the file to the computer you use to check the email and calendar information you'd like to receive on your smartphone.
  4. Make sure your computer is connected to your office email network (if you can send and receive your work email, you're connected). If you can't get a connection, or you're unsure, contact your IT department.
  5. Once you have verified that you're connected to your Microsoft Exchange server, double-click the BlackBerry Connect installer from your desktop. The installer will run a wizard from the desktop which will perform the following steps:
  6. Setup and install the BlackBerry Connect Desktop application on the PC
  7. Modify, add, and configure your HotSync® conduits
  8. Install the software and settings on your Treo smartphone via a HotSync operation
  9. Identify your device on the RIM infrastructure.
