Which volume levels can I set?
You can adjust several volume level settings on your HP webOS device. When you adjust a volume level setting, your device saves the setting, so the next time you perform the same action, the volume level is right where you left it.
You can set unique volume levels for the following items:
Skype calls: When you?re on a call, the volume button adjusts the speaker or headset volume, so you can control the volume of the person?s voice on the other end of the call. When setting the Skype call volume, the volume icon is a speaker or headset, depending on which method you?re using for the call.
Ringtones and alarms: When you?re not on a Skype call or playing a media file, the volume button adjusts the volume of the alarm tones you set in the Clock app. When setting the ringtone volume, the volume icon is a bell.
Media files: When you?re playing a media file, such as music, audio on a web page or watching videos with sound, the volume button adjusts the volume of the media file. You can set the volume separately for the speaker and headset. When setting the media volume for the speaker, the volume icon is a bell. When setting the media volume for a headset, the volume icon is a musical note.
System sounds: System sounds include transition sounds, notification alerts, and the camera shutter click. To set the volume level for system sounds, you must use the Sounds & Ringtones app (see Select system sounds and vibrate settings). The volume button does not adjust the volume of system sounds.
Use the volume button
- Press the volume button on the side of your device. The volume adjusts based on the situation (see the previous section, Which volume levels can I set?, for details).

Add a new ringtone
If you pair your device with an HP webOS smartphone, you can answer calls made to your smartphone directly on your device. You can select a ringtone for calls your receive on your device.
You can add a file in any of the following file types as a ringtone for your device: MP3, AAC, AAC+, AMR, QCELP, or WAV. How to use the file as a ringtone depends on the following: the file type, how you obtain the file, and whether you want to use the file as a ringtone only, or play it in the Music app.
You can obtain files to use as ringtones in any of the following ways:
To use an AMR or QCELP file as a ringtone, the file must be stored in the ringtones folder on your device?s USB drive. Here?s how to get the file into the correct folder:
- Files downloaded from App Catalog: The file is placed in the ringtones folder automatically.
- Files copied from your computer: You must use USB drive mode to place the file in the ringtones folder.
To use a file in the ringtones folder as a ringtone, see Select a file from the ringtones folder as a ringtone.
For MP3, AAC, AAC+, and WAV files, you have two options:
- To use the file as a ringtone only: Place the file in the ringtones folder (see Using USB drive mode to transfer files ). If the file is already on your device, connect your device to your computer, navigate to the file, and move the file to the ringtones folder. If you download a file from a ringtone app in App Catalog, it is automatically placed in the ringtones folder. To use a file in the ringtones folder as a ringtone, see Select a file from the ringtones folder as a ringtone.
- To both use the file as a ringtone and listen to the file in the Music app: Copy the file to your device and place the file in any folder on your device?s USB drive except ringtones (see Using USB drive mode to transfer files ). To use the file as a ringtone, follow the steps in Select a song as a ringtone.
Did you know? You can also add ringtones by saving an attachment that you received in the Email or Messaging apps. For details on saving email attachments, see Sending and Receiving email messages . To find attachments from the Messaging app, look in the attachment/mms folder on your device and locate the subfolder that was modified on the date you received the attachment.

What does the ringer switch do?
The ringer switch enables you to turn sounds on and off. When the ringer switch is off (red shows next to switch) it silences the following sounds:
- Ringtones?your phone won?t ring in the middle of a movie or meeting
- System sounds, including reminders you add to Calendar events
Note By default, alarms you set in the Clock app sound even when the ringer switch is off. This means that you can turn off the ringer switch and sleep through the night without being awakened at 3:00 AM by a random wrong number, but your alarm still wakes you at 6:00 AM. If, however, you do not want your Clock alarm to sound when the ringer is off, you can change your Clock Preferences settings (see Using Clock ).
