Trouble creating an HP webOS Account

What is an HP webOS Account?

An HP webOS Account (called Palm profile on some devices) connects your device to the webOS server to get updates, back up your data, and more. You create an HP webOS Account during setup. It is important to remember your HP webOS Account password. You may need it in the future to access webOS services, such as HP webOS App Catalog.

Your HP webOS Account is composed of the following credentials:

  • An email address
  • A password
  • A security question and answer

Common problems

  • Data services: To complete setup, you must have one of the following:
    • A smartphone provisioned with both phone and data services from your wireless service provider. The data plan must be supported by the phone, or setup will fail even if the phone has a data connection.
    • A tablet with a SIM card that is provisioned with data services from your wireless service provider. The data plan must be supported by the device, or setup will fail even if the device has a data connection.
    • A W-Fi only tablet with a Wi-Fi connection.
  • Wireless network connection (smartphones and tablets with a SIM card): Your device needs a good data network connection to create an HP webOS Account. Verify that one of the following data connection icons appears at the top of the screen: the 1x icon, the 3G icon, the E icon, the Ev icon, the G icon, the H icon, the H+ icon, or the U icon. An icon may appear when the connection is too weak for setup, so get as strong a signal as possible. Check the number of white bars on the signal-strength icon at the top of the screen. If only a few bars are white, the signal is weak, which means your data connection could also be weak. To get a better signal, try the following:
    • If you?re standing, move about 10 feet in any direction.
    • In a building, move near a window. Open any metal blinds.
    • In a building, move outdoors or to a more open area.
    • Outdoors, move away from large buildings, trees, or electrical wires.
    • In a vehicle, move your device so that it?s level with a window.

Note The Wi-Fi the Wi-Fi On icon icon also appears during setup, but the device is not connected to a Wi-Fi network (the bars are gray, not white). Wi-Fi cannot be used to set up a webOS smartphone or tablet with a SIM card.

  • Wi-Fi connection (Wi-Fi only tablets): Your device needs a good Wi-Fi connection to create an HP webOS Account. Verify that you have at least two white bars in the Wi-Fi the Wi-Fi On icon icon. To get a better signal, try the following if applicable:
    • Move closer to the Wi-Fi source.
    • Move the Wi-Fi access point off the floor and away from walls and metal objects.
    • Move the device away from other wireless devices such as cordless phones, microwave ovens, baby monitors, etc.
  • Email address is in use: You cannot create an HP webOS Account with an email address that is used for another HP webOS Account.
  • Invalid format for email address: The email address must be formatted properly, using the name@domain.com standard.
  • Invalid name: You must enter a first and last name when prompted, or an error message appears. Make sure you enter a first and last name when prompted.
  • Invalid password: If passwords do not match, or are not 6-20 characters, an error message appears. Make sure that passwords match and are formatted correctly.
  • Server problem: When the server cannot create an HP webOS Account due to an outage or other interruption, a link to hpwebos.com/support and an error message appear. After the wireless network connection is restored, wait a few minutes, select Back, and try again.
