Install the software from the initial Treo Pro Setup mode
Important: Do not connect the sync cable to your desktop PC until instructed to do so below.
| The Treo Pro smartphone is the first Palm smartphone to use a Treo Setup application in lieu of a device CD and paper user guide. This application supports Palm's environmental initiative to save resources by reducing in-box materials and packing materials. The Treo Setup application automatically runs upon the first connection of the Treo Pro smartphone and the computer (PC) via the provided sync cable. This application provides all of the information that would typically appear on a device CD including a link to Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5, a link to a free trial of Outlook 2007, and an electronic version of the user guide. To initiate the Treo Setup application please follow these steps: The Treo Setup application automatically runs upon the first connection of the Treo Pro smartphone and the computer (PC) via the provided sync cable.
- Connect the sync cable provided in the box to the Treo Pro smartphone via the micro USB port at the bottom of the device. Connect the other end of the sync cable to the computer (PC) via the USB port.
- The following screen should appear to provide the Treo Setup application which allows access to the information that would typically appear on a device CD.

- After this initial connection, the device will revert back to ActiveSync mode upon subsequent connections of the device and PC via the sync cable.
To regain access to the Treo Setup application after this initial connection the user should follow these steps:
- From the Today Screen open the Start
menu and select Settings.
- On the System tab select PC Setup.
- In the drop down list select Set up my PC.
- Select OK or Done.
- Connect the sync cable provided in the box to the Treo Pro smartphone via the micro USB port at the bottom of the device. Connect the other end of the sync cable to the computer (PC) via the USB port.
Note: Your smartphone includes a cable, not a cradle

- Continue following the ActiveSync setup instructions on your desktop PC screen. You will be prompted to set up a sync relationship between your Treo Pro smartphone and your desktop PC. Some important points:
- Synchronize directly with a server? If your organization uses an Exchange Server 2003 or later, select this option to sync your corporate email and Calendar directly with the server (either wirelessly, or when your sync cable is connected). Get the Server Address and other info from your IT department; the server address is usually the same as your Outlook Web Access (OWA) address, such as owa.mycompany.com.
- Synchronization Options > Files: Check this box to add a folder to your Windows desktop into which you can drop files (Word, Excel, photos, etc.) to transfer to your smartphone and keep synchronized.
