Palm Desktop compatibility with Windows 7 and 64-bit editions

Windows 7 logo

Palm Desktop 6.2 was designed for 32-bit editions of Windows XP and Windows Vista. You may be able to use this software with other versions of Windows.

Windows 7: Many users have successfully installed and used Palm Desktop 6.2 with Windows 7. Palm has not done thorough testing with a range of third-party equipment running Windows 7, therefore Palm cannot guarantee compatibility.

64-bit editions of Windows: USB HotSync is not supported. Instead, synchronize through a Bluetooth wireless connection: set up Bluetooth HotSync.

Ready to begin? Let's get started.

Set up your phone

Insert the battery

  1. Remove the battery door on the back of your smartphone.
  2. Insert the battery. It is packaged separately when you first unpack your smartphone.
  3. Replace the battery door.

The battery comes with a sufficient charge to complete the setup process and activate your phone. After activation, we recommend charging your device for 3.5 hours to give it a full charge.

  1. Plug the AC charger into a wall outlet.
  2. Connect the charger cable to the charger jack on the bottom of the device. Make sure the arrow on the connector is facing up, toward your Treo device screen.
  3. To confirm that your device is charging, check the indicator light.
    • Red indicates that your device is charging.
    • Green indicates that your device is fully charged.

If the battery is fully drained, it may take a few moments for the indicator light to turn on while the battery is charging. See what the battery icons mean.

Check your phone

If you bought your device at a store, it is ready to use. Skip ahead to "Make a Call."

Connect to your desktop PC and sync

Synchronizing means that information that is entered or updated in one place (your smartphone or your desktop PC) is automatically updated in the other, so there?s no need to enter the information twice. We strongly recommend that you synchronize frequently to keep your information up-to-date (and backed up) in both locations.

IMPORTANT: You must install the software that came with your Treo 700p device even if you already have Palm Desktop software installed on your computer.

Do not uninstall the previous version of Palm Desktop. Install your Treo 700p software over the existing version on your desktop PC.

  1. Insert the Palm Software Installation CD into your desktop PC.
  2. Install the software:
    • Windows: follow the onscreen instructions to install the software.
    • Mac: double-click the CD icon, and then double-click PalmSoftware.pkg.
  3. When prompted, connect your device and your desktop PC.
  4. The installer will prompt you to sync: press the sync button on the USB sync cable.
  5. When synchronization is complete, press Applications on your device to view and start using the applications.

What does the first synchronization do?
The first time you synchronize, you set up a relationship between your device and your desktop PC that lets you easily transfer new or updated information between the device and desktop PC any time you sync in the future.
