Do I need this utility?

Palm Inc., does not provide support for the USBSwitch Serial Switchback Utility, or for serial ActiveSync. This software is provided as a potential solution in cases where RNDIS connectivity is restricted by any of the factors listed above.

If for any reason this utility does not help with your synchronization issue, please revert back to a RNDIS type connection: repeat the instructions below and tap the USB Switch utility; this will switch you back to RNDIS. Additional support may be required either through your PC manufacturer, Software Product provider, or IT administrator.

Do I need this utility?

Treo 700w Verizon customers will find this is installed on your smartphone when you run the Treo 700w Updater.

Treo 700wx Sprint customers do not need this - It is included on the device - Do not install on your device.

Before proceeding, seek support from your IT helpdesk or a PC expert who can determine whether the USBSwitch utillity will be useful to you. If this utility does not help you, we suggest you revert back to an RNDIS type connection by running the utility again.

Important:
If you're having trouble with USB ActiveSync, this utility may help you in certain situations. However, it is intended to be used after you have consulted your IT helpdesk or a PC expert. Do not run this utility without reading all information below and verifying that it fits your needs.

What does it do?

The USBSwitch utility is a workaround that lets you connect through a method other than RNDISยน. This is useful if your Windows PC configuration uses third-party software or network configurations that interfere with ActiveSync's ability to connect via RNDIS. RNDIS is capable of working correctly if the settings are properly configured, but some of these settings may be configurable only by your organization's IT Helpdesk.

Conditions that may prevent your RNDIS implementation from working include:

  • VPN policy settings that prevent multiple network connections.
  • Network policies that change NDIS settings.
  • Firewalls that block ports and have not been updated to include ActiveSync in their exception list.
  • Network optimization utilities on some laptops.

When RNDIS issues prevent synchronization, the USBSwitch Serial Switchback Utility may resolve the issue.
