This article applies if all of the following are true:
- You're performing a Bluetooth wireless HotSync operation with your desktop PC OR you're performing a Network HotSync operation.
- There is an SD or MMC expansion card in your device.
- The HotSync operation fails during Media synchronization, or freezes on the Media screen.
Why does it happen?
The HotSync operation fails because two important conditions converge. First, Bluetooth or Network HotSync operations happen more slowly than local USB or other connection methods. And second, Media synchronization also takes a long time, since photo and video files are usually quite large. Under these conditions, the HotSync process might time out, causing synchronization to fail.
You may receive a HotSync error message, or the process may freeze on the "Synchronizing Media" screen for a long time.
What to do
You can try one of these methods to keep the HotSync process from freezing on the "Synchronizing Media" screen:
- Remove the expansion card from your device before you synchronize.
- If you need to keep the expansion card in your device while you sync, we suggest that you synchronize locally (not Network HotSync) through a USB connection. USB synchronization is much speedier and less likely to time out.
- Or, if you prefer, you can change the Media conduit action to "Do Nothing" when you sync via Bluetooth or Network HotSync with an expansion card in your device. Please note, your Media files (photos, videos, and others) will not be synchronized until you turn the Media conduit back on; we suggest that you only synchronize Media through a local USB connection.
