Palm Desktop compatibility with Windows 7 and 64-bit editions

Windows 7 logo

Palm Desktop 6.2 was designed for 32-bit editions of Windows XP and Windows Vista. You may be able to use this software with other versions of Windows.

Windows 7: Many users have successfully installed and used Palm Desktop 6.2 with Windows 7. Palm has not done thorough testing with a range of third-party equipment running Windows 7, therefore Palm cannot guarantee compatibility.

This is the setup guide for the Palm z22 handheld. In this article, you will learn how to:

  • Charge and set up your Palm Z22 handheld.
  • Install Palm® Desktop software, HotSync Manager, and software for synchronizing with Microsoft Outlook (if you like)
  • Sync your handheld with your computer.

  • Install additional software like SplashShopper and eReader

Install Palm Desktop software on your computer

If you are upgrading from another Palm OS handheld, you must install the version of Palm Desktop software included in the Palm Z22 package, even if you already have an earlier installation on your computer.

If you use Microsoft Outlook, you'll still need to install the new software from the CD-ROM included with your Palm Z22 handheld.

About Palm Desktop: Palm Desktop lets you enter appointments, addresses, and other information on your desktop computer. Then you can transfer the information to your handheld using the HotSync process. It's the fastest way to enter lots of information.

  2. Follow the installation instructions that appear on your computer screen.

Mac OS X:

  1. Put the CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Double-click the Palm CD icon on your desktop.
  3. Double-click the PalmSoftware.pkg icon.

Synchronizing with Outlook? (Windows only) To set up Microsoft Outlook synchronization, select "Install Microsoft Outlook Conduits" at the end of the installation process. If you already selected Palm Desktop and wish to switch to Outlook, click here for switching information.

Experiencing frequent resets or errors?

If you previously owned another handheld and transferred your applications to your new Palm Z22 handheld, they should now be in place after the HotSync operation. However, the Palm Z22 uses a file architecture that may conflict with older versions of third-party software.

Signs of incompatibility include: resets, fatal errors, fatal alerts and locking up. Visit Knowledge Library article 40791 if you see this behavior after transferring your old applications to your new Palm Z22 handheld.
